Maths and Fairy Bread

A tasty treat for maths today - making fairy bread to reinforce the concept of halves.

Making Fairy Bread

Today we made fairy bread and incorporated it into our Maths. We had to work with a buddy and cut our sandwich in half. We all managed to do this challenge!!

Hot Chocolate Pics

We wrote stories about our hot chocolate. Before we did we had another look at the brainstorm that we did with Mrs Lindley and tried to incude some interesting words in our writing. Delicious, soggy and flavour were popular words choices for our stories.

Maths in Room 6

This week for Maths we have been looking at halves and quarters. Yesterday we learned how to fold paper into quarters and used a ruler to show 1/4 on different shapes. Today we drew lines to show quarters on our circle and then pasted a different colour for each quarter. We had to share back what we had done using full sentences and to remember to include the word quarter. Austin, Ruby and Braxton were great at doing this.

Making Hot Chocolates

On Monday afternoon we made hot chocolates for our oral language experience. The children were encouraged to talk in full sentences about what we did and incorporate new vocab in context.
ie: The marshmallows were melting in our cup.

Room 6 Cards and Pink Friday Pics

Last week children in Room 6 made some pretty cards to give to their mums on Mother's Day. We hope you liked them. Pink was the colour of the day here at Parkview to show our support for anti-bullying. Room 5 and 6 talked about what bullying means and how we can keep our school a safe and happy place. Helen, our Learning Assistant looked so fabulous in her outfit that we had to include her in the photo too.

Speaking and Listening

Last term we undertook a mini inquiry on getting to know one another. This term with the chance to do another mini inquiry we felt the children would benefit from activities that promote speaking and listening.
To get us started today we had to sit and listen to each other share our weekend news. We were then able to ask questions of each other news like: What playground did you go to? Who did you play with?

For many of us we are still learning the difference between a comment and a question.

Mrs Clarke and Mrs Lindley have some exciting activities to do to help promote using our clear speaking voices and practice our listening skills.

Certificates

Well done to Jess, Amanda and Peyton who have all made great improvements on their letter sound/name knowledge and Tanish for his fantastic handwriting. Ka pai tō mahi!

Geometry shapes

For the next few weeks we will be learning about shapes and describing their attributes. Emma and Lily did a super job using a hexagon shape to create their caterpillars.

Autumn Leaves

Today Room 6 talked about the changes they are seeing and experiencing in the environment now that Autumn is here. As a motivation for art we had great fun scrambling around in the leaves. Before heading back to class we ran around the court twice trying to build our fitness level in preparation for cross country.

Room 7's Visit to Kindy

So much to explore at Kids First Kindergarten yesterday. Half an hour just wasn't long enough so we will have to go back again soon for ...
